Critics Consensus
Stars Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish look better than they should as heroin addicts, and their characters are too absorbed and self-pitying to be totally compelling.
Amy Nicholson I.E. Weekly Davies has no new insights into the heroin spiral, but this silly melodrama benefits from the palpable chemistry between Ledger and Cornish Rated: C May 15, 2009 Full Review Katey Rich Film Journal International Without real characters or a fresh take on drug addiction, Candy has little to recommend it for anyone who's seen The Basketball Diaries or Requiem for a Dream. Mari F Heavy, heartbreaking, sad love story about two people clinging to each other while engrossed in their mind-numbing drug use. Great acting by Geoffrey Rush as their supportive druggie buddy. Rated 2/5 Stars •Rated 2 out of 5 stars08/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Inspired, the scene's are beautifully shot. The subject matter, while dark and suffocating, effectively captures the essence of a young and true love in which is plagued by the realities of a life with addiction. A great performance by Heath Ledger, perhaps only outshined by Geoffrey Rush. Rated 4/5 Stars •Rated 4 out of 5 stars02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I live this movie. Great actuation of Abbie and Ledger!! Rated 5/5 Stars •Rated 5 out of 5 stars01/17/23 Full Review nilufer e No sympathy from me to the junkies, the movie wasn't bad, it was just not for me. Will (also referred to as Wil) has been picked up by Netflix and is set to be released globally on January 31st, 2024. Set in Antwerp, Belgium, the new WWII movie tells the story of an auxiliary policeman working during the Nazi occupation.
Alien Romulus succeeds thanks to Fede Alvarez's thoughtful approach at reminding the audience why the first film worked so well. It has all the staples of the Alien franchise. Content collapsed. It may not be particularly nostalgic, but the lack of vision and forward thinking leaves it spinning its wheels in the past.
The spatial dynamics of the scenes are secondary. That being said, Will has a brilliant screenplay, and the characters are so grounded in the story, which we are told has something to do with history (with an H). I hadn't ever heard any stories about the Belgian occupation by Germany during World War 2.
Rotten score. Will (2024) is just another WWII movie. It's not a bad movie. But it's not doing anything to push the medium, and the areas where it attempts to are more exhausting than impactful.
This implausibly versatile black goo seems to do something different to everyone it touches, more of a narrative convenience than a plausible addition to the 45-year-old franchise's mythology. Now that the magic slime has returned in "Alien: Romulus," it looks like it's here to stay.
But Alien: Romulus' chestburster comes close, because Álvarez dialed up the gore. Álvarez managed to make Alien: Romulus' chestburster even more gruesome than Scott's. He sustains the dread for longer, because the facehugger's latest victim, Navarro, has an x-ray gun that allows her to see inside her chest.
“Ridley was the one who said, 'Ash was always the best. He needs to make a comeback,'” Álvarez recently told The Hollywood Reporter. The result is Rook — a look-alike to Ash, who was destroyed in the original film, and a predecessor to the similarly chess-piece-named Bishop, played by Lance Henriksen in 1986's Aliens.
Earnestly performed if marred by clunky dialogue, It Ends With Us is surprisingly at its most graceful when handling the more provocative elements of its melodramatic source material. A faithful and well-done adaptation of Colleen Hoover's book, It Ends With Us is an emotional and relatable depiction of bad romance.
Will tells the story of the titular character's struggles with grappling with the Nazi's violence and how the Jewish community endured hardships during the war. The film is directed by Tim Mileants and based on the novel of the same name by Jeroen Olyslaegers. Will premiered on Netflix on January 31.
The film centres on the trials and tribulations in the lives of two main fictional characters: eleven-year-old Will Brennan and Bosnian footballer Alek, and their trek to see Liverpool play AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League Final at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
Additional tiers include $15.49 for Standard service, which includes 2 screens, and $22.99 for Premium, which includes 4 screens as well as upgraded HDR/4K resolution.
